Complete renovation of a Victorian Oxford townhouse, respecting the building’s original character.
Private Residence, Oxford
It was a pleasure to restore and reimagine this elegant Victorian townhouse, rich in character and charm. The project involved a full renovation, carefully balancing modern comfort with heritage sensitivity.
Scope of Works:
- Complete renewal of all mechanical and electrical systems
- Internal layout reconfigurations to suit modern living
- Bespoke timber sash windows – a full prototype was produced and meticulously reviewed, from cords and pulleys to glazing and beading, before fabrication
- New slate and lead roofing
- High-quality finishes throughout, including plastering, tiling, and decorations
- Custom-made fitted joinery and kitchen installation
- Construction of a new brick chimney, matched precisely to the original with reclaimed bricks
- Basement tanking using a Cavity Drain Membrane system
We were fortunate to work with a client who shared our commitment to restoring the home’s original features. This included:
- Original vertical sliding shutters fully restored to working order
- Fibrous plaster cornices — moulds were taken from existing sections, re-cast, and expertly reinstated on site
- Refurbished cast iron roof finials
- Stone and brick repairs using a blend of reclaimed and new materials as appropriate
- Restoration of original doors and fireplaces
- Handrails carefully restored and French polished
This project is a testament to the value of craftsmanship, careful planning, and a collaborative approach to conservation-led renovation.
